Not All Shaving Handles Are Built the Same.

The idea for the Skull Rake started when I couldn’t keep a good grip on the shaving handle while I shaved my head. I would go through my usual routine of shaving my head in the shower, but I kept running into the same problem: struggling to keep a good grip on the razor handle. A lot of times, it would slip out of my hand, hit the shower floor, and break.

Frustrated by the lack of grip, I decided to create a better handle to improve my shaving experience. I started by molding clay into different shapes, experimenting with comfortable grip formations. Eventually, I switched to wax, which allowed me to carve a handle that fit
perfectly in my hand and worked well across the different angles needed to shave the scalp.

Once I nailed down a comfortable design, I realized I needed the handle to work not just for the head shaving part, but also for shaving the face, legs, chest, back — wherever. After about a year of trial and error, I finally attached someone else’s razor head to my custom handle and gave it a try. To my amazement, it worked. It made the whole shaving process so much easier.

Now that I had a handle, I was proud of, I needed feedback from other bald men to confirm I wasn’t just imagining things. I hired an engineer to create a 3D print of my design and made several prototypes. Then, I handed them out to as many bald men as I could — strangers on the street, people I knew, friends of friends, fellow bar-goers — anyone who shaved their head. I asked them to use the Skull Rake for 2 weeks, shaving as they normally would, and then fill out a survey about their experience.
